My pre-pregnancy weight was 120 and Im 5'7". Im 19 weeks and went to the Dr today and Ive gained 12 pounds so far. She said usually 10 pounds is good for 20 weeks but then said Im ok because she wants me to gain around 40 pounds. The more I think about this, its confusing. Am I gaining too much or not enough? How much did you gain/or how much have you gained and what has your Dr said about it?

10 pounds at 20 weeks is LIGHT! I'm surprised she said that as I don't think 10 pounds is enough for 20 weeks. I'd say closer to 15-20 pounds is good.
25-35 pounds is considered "normal." With my daughter, I gained 40. The doc says I gained 35, but my scale says 40. I lost it all plus 5 pounds by 5 months, so it came off nice and quick.
I'm currently 33 weeks with number two and have gained 22 -25 pounds so far. I think I won't gain over 30 total for this one.
My doc says my weight gain is good and for the last one, he said it was good too.
I think you are right on target.

Listen to what your doctor is telling you. I gained a lot (60 lbs) with my first about 30 (still too much) with my second but I have only gained 11 with this pregnancy and this baby is 9plus pounds. I was also very heavy when I got pregnant this time, which it sounds like you are at a healthy weight for your height. Just remember to eat healthy and good luck.

she wants you to gain more weight cuz you are taller. I am 5'3" and i gained like 40 lbs by the end of my pregnancy. At first i would gain 2 lb a week but when i quit working and i gained about 5 lbs a week.

to tell you the truth don't worrie about your doctor as long as your gaining weight your fine everyone is differnt i started off at 104 and i was 151 when i went to give birth i'm 110 now and very happy with it..some ppl lose weight during preg. because there sick all the time some ppl gain alot and some ppl hardly gain anything because you tall you most likely wont get a huge belly the baby can grow up instead of out. they can't tell you how much to gain its what they would like you to gain..

I'm almost 19 weeks and I've gained around 10lbs. I was 5'5" and 115lb to start with. My doctor hasn't even mentioned weight gain so I'm not going to push the issue!

She changed her mind because she realized you're thin. You are allowed to gain more when you're thinner. Average sized women should only gain about 30 lbs...less if they are heavier, more if they are thinner. So, no worries.
Remember, your body is storing fat for burning when you breastfeed, that is the purpose of weight gain in pregnancy.

I just asked this same question, and I got a great answer. Here is the link. I think 40 lbs is way too much. They usually say between 25-30 lbs.
