Couldn't the President of the United States unite with UN members in making this possible? I think at least 12 hours on a sunday once a month could be do-able. What do you think?

I'm referring to the global warming that's going on. I have read that if everyone stopped driving for one day with the exception of law enforcement and emergency response of course.

No because the President and most of the UN members probably have pockets loaded with big oil money.

I certainly hope they can't. What possible purpose could be served by it?

I suppose that you're getting at the idea that with some minute reduction in fuel use, a tiny, tiny bit of carbon dioxide might not be emitted. The problem with that is:

1) The savings would all be lost on Monday morning, and further, the driving that people decided to forego would all be done the next Sunday instead. That's similar to suggestions that no one buy gasoline on certain days;

2) While Global Warming believers love to blame America first, the fact is that China and India are roaring ahead full steam, so to speak, with their carbon emissions. The miniscule amount saved by inconveniencing Americans is wiped out by the fact that China opens a new coal-fired power plant almost daily. And while we Americans try to conserve, governments in India and China aren't in the least concerned about Global Warming and think only about keeping their annual economic rates of growth as high as possible. You can be sure that they won't be listening to President Bush or the UN.

I have a better idea... rather than making me stop driving for one day a month, why don't you and all you're eco-socialists friends give up driving forever? I think it would all equalize!

In all seriousness, this is the most idiotic idea I've ever heard of. Can you imagine what would happen to the economy if nobody could drive for one day a month?! How many billions would be lost? It's incalculable. Even so, the impact on the environment would be so insignificant that it would not even register! If you are that worried about global warming there are far better solutions... this one is just patently stupid though!

Global warming is not man made, and cannot be stopped by puny humans. Its a natural cycle thats been going on for millenia. Hot, warm, cool, cold, cool, warm, hot.
This has been going on since before mankinds appearance and will continue after we are gone.
Al Gore is a shyster. Period.

Of course not...what about ambulances, police, fire departments, any number of emergency vehicles and others that simply HAVE to travel at any given time. Never happen. UN might go for it, though.

Now, why would Bush (an OIL BUSINESSMAN) want to make efforts to punch down his profits and hurt shareholder stocks (owned by his Washington D.C. colleagues)????

Think about that....and think about this: WE THE PEOPLE can do something...and it's in the works as we speak.

Avoid going to gas pumps for the FULL 24 hour day, starting May 15th. Get the word out ONLINE to ALL your Internet contacts asking the spread this word to at least 5 to 10 OFFLINE friends as well, explaining why we must do this.....

...and that reason is: to show BIG OIL we are NOT mindless cattle they can price gouge!!!!

We would want to do this why?

Please do some research on the UN and see whether they are really an organization that is worth the money spent on it.

No.

Can you imagine how much a world economy would be hit if people couldn't get to work?

Just buy green vehicles and car pool when you can. All we can do is what we can do.
Screw the oil companies as often as we can!
Why just one day?
Everyday!!

Do you really want to live in a world where "someone" can force you to do something like this?
