There are two types of gauges. If it's an amp meter, that means you're drawing current from the battery. If it's a volt meter, it means your alternator voltage is low. First step is to check the voltage with a hand held voltmeter while the car is running. If it's under 13.5 volts, your alternator is weak or dead.

Your altenator might want to be going undesirable. Take the vehicle to a battery keep and enable them to do a free "charging" attempt. if it really is the altenator, you or a mechanic can really replace it.
