Absolutely not. Saving this country has nothing to do with taking away our freedom and privacy. They are two of the basic principles of our constitution, government, and nation as a whole. The war on terror continues because the actions we take inflame further people and put more terrorists into their ranks. Take the Patriot Act, a clear violation of our rights in a bunch of different ways. Talk about the right to a speedy trial, the right not to have un-lawful search and seizures without a warrant, taping our phone lines without a warrant. The truth? When it first passed Bush said the Patriot Act would allow us to just monitor foreign calls into the US and foreign calls from the US out. However, upon closer scrutinization that's not true, they are monitoring domestic calls as well. It's a crock and giving it the "Patriot Act" name is an oxymoron, most people are patriot's of this country because of the freedom it stands for, that act took significant freedom and rights from us the people, and it's a pity most went along with it for the wrong reasons.

Privacy, general freedom and religious choice rights are the basic American building blocks that are in place because millions of patriots fought (and many tragically died for) and secured for what we enjoy today.
Yes.....those principals ARE threatened by many of Washington D.C.'s empowered---people I hold under suspicion and question their REAL motives and actions.....
Politics and profit keep us from positive win advances on the war on terrorism; the empowered argue more on who gets what contract.....etc....etc.....and erstwhile, the baddies crawl around it all like cowardly rats.
To save America....we need to shake awake the empowered and have them do their jobs right. Starting with better police resource surveilances that DO NOT infringe on American citizen rights.

We are not winning any war on terrorism. We are losing the respect, confidence, and affection other nations have for the U.S.A. because we've become bullies - intent on protecting anything that we believe to be in "our interests', at any cost. Unwilling to share the bounty from the second largest reserves of OIL on Earth, we choose to stage an unconstitutional and illegal 'war' with a country that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the U.S.
As the world's populations demand more of their fair share of the Earth's natural resources, the U.S.A. will become more hated, despised, and targeted by 'terrorists' who believe they should have an equal say in our dominion over the planet.
Yes, to preserve America we need to sacrifice all things American. Yes, to save this great country, we need to get rid of it - at least in its present state of existence.
America is China's biggest debtor. It's only a matter of time before the Chinese will become a serious threat to our nation "as it is" today. When China revokes our 'credit card', it will send its military over here to take whatever it wants: oil, banks, real estate, property, military hardware, natural gas, water, weapons of mass destruction, even our women if there's a huge demand for western women in the global sex slave trade.
Imagine if America had spent TRILLIONS of dollars on finding ways to create more equality among nations and more fairness among all men (instead of squandering the TRILLIONS of dollars on 'protecting' our 'interests' in the Middle East). Imagine if those TRILLIONS of dollars had been spent on infrastructure, schools, human rights, food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, environmental enhancements, and ecological preservation? Today, we could all live in more harmony and with higher standards of living.
And China might be persuaded to become a global partner in our humanitarian efforts instead of - perhaps - becoming our next global super power that will take what it wants without regard for the rest of the world (as the U.S. has done for the past century).

I'd be willing to give up some privacy to help stop terrorism, but freedom is why generations of our relatives and ancestors fought for this country.

"If we want to preserve America, shouldn't we give up all things American?"
LOL. This is the most ironic statement I've heard all year. I'll add that to my list of funny one-liners.

No. Current public opinion weights in a lot. Unfortunately, this is the main reason we do not do a lot of "tactically practical" things we have the capabilities of doing. I say bomb every country that has said in the past that they want our destruction. Make a big piece of glass in the middle east.
Most important thing, Israel should be protected at all cost.
