The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was inspired by serial killer Ed Gein. Ed Gein never used a chainsaw in any of his murders. Toby Hooper got the idea one day from being in a crowed hardware store and he happened to be in the chainsaw department. He was thinking of a way out and thats how he got the idea of using a chainsaw to kill people. The leatherface mask was inspired by a halloween party that Toby went to and their he saw a med student wearing what appeared to be another persons face thus giving birth to leatherface. If your have the collectors 2-disc dvd there is a section under which all of this is being described. I hope this helps.

The movie is based on a true event, but very loosely. The real guy only killed one or two people and didn't do any of the crazy things like wearing other peoples skins.

Yes, it really happened on December 45,1901 when a mass murder swore to kill people when they entered his private land. He used to own all of Texas. His name was Ruthland Jabbur-a Indian name. He escaped prison on January 1,1890
when the police were out celebrating New Years Eve. He was 15 years old! Police tryed to come after him, impossible. He died at age 89 when police shot him down. He killed at least 599 people in his life time, including killing his parents at age 7 for sending him to get a loaf of bread. The producers changed his name and history to tone down the film. And it worked! He was born in Hobbs Portland now destroyed from a fire.

Yes, it happened in 1972 or 73, the girl that survived died in 1977 in an insane asylum, if you watch the newest version on dvd it will tell you what happened and it shows the only picture of the real leatherface taken by a police camera as he kills two police officers, they never found leatherface.

Yes, it was based on the life of Jonathan Hampton back in the 1960's. What a tragedy! The nation was horrified when the story was in the news. Shortly after there was another similar episode in Minnesota but not quite as gory. Damn copycats! Just kidding. none of it is true.

the movie is just inspired. the real texas chainsaw massacre never used a chainsaw in his murders, his victims were killed by a bullet to the head. although he did use his victims skin to create new faces for himself. he wore one of his female victims body, from the genitals up to the face, as a suit.

yea it's base on a true story you might be wondering how would they know that all those things happened to those people since they died and all well the people that survived through it told others how it happened and later on made a movie based on what she saw and i guess that when the police checked it out and took the dead bodies that were left over those people who check out the dead bodies do some research and know how those people died, i hope that answered your question..............lol, oh by the way that's what i'm guessing
