I am looking to buy my first motorcycle within the next month. I got a quote from a dealer for under the MSRP. I was wondering am I suppose to accept this or am I suppose to negotiate like I would a new car?

You can buy a bike cheaper in the northern u.s. than you can in the south,just keep that in mind.

I have bought many 1 and 2 year old Harley's at 25-30% off of the retail price, with lots of accessories, and under 1000 miles on them. . Look on line at the used H.D.s for sale. All motorcycles prices are negotiable, even Harley's. All the factory's establish a MSR. This is the manufacturers suggested retail. What a dealer sells it for is his business. There is no factory set price. This would be price fixing. Right now you can negotiate around $1000 off on new H.D.s in our area.The freight and set up, which the Harley dealer charges around $900 for is also a profit center, except for the legitimate set up charge of about $150.00,. The factory's reimburse the dealer for freight in many cases. As far as the market goes it is very soft right now. I have seen non current 1000 cc sport bikes go out the door for $3000 of of list. This is actually below the dealers net price. On certain models that are scarce, or certain colors you may have to pay list, but not often. On the smaller bikes the dealers have very little mark up. It seems the industry is in a lull, with more bikes than buyers. The only people that by a new H.D., or any make and model, and pay list, are people who want to brag how much it cost. LOL. Buy now, negotiate like crazy. Good luck.

If you know the exact M/C you want, contact several dealers in you area and get a DRIVE-OUT price. Some dealers play a game of low price+assembly+prep+taxes+documentation fee. You name it, they have thought of it. With that said, the more expensive the M/C, the more room you will have to negotiate. Good luck. Also, if you have not taken the Motorcycle Safety Foundation coarse, do so before you ride the bike...it will make all the difference in how well you are prepared for the road.

That would depend on the brand. I once bought a Honda Shadow, and yes, I negotiated a price. Besides lowering the original price by a couple of hundred, then there were the add ons, such as a free helmet, free sissy bar and free oil changes for the first year.
My next bike was a Harley. Forget about negotiating anything. The price is set at the factory by the company head quarters, and there is no such thing as negoitiating.

Yes you can negotiate, depending on the demand for the bike. For example, I was in the market for a new literbike. I went to the yamaha/honda dealer, I wanted an R1. They wouldnt budge on the price. I ended up buying a 1000rr for $2,000 under sticker price.
Check out a few different shops. Ask people in your area if they wouldnt mind telling you how much you paid.

forgot to mention all of those assembly/freight fees and whatnot. Make sure you read everything that you sign and if something looks fishy, tell them you want something from them signed in writing.

Anything can be negotiated. What you are going to accomplish will depend on how hot the bike is selling and how large the supply of them is. Like anything else it's supply and demand. If everyone wants one why should the dealer give you a break.

Put out a call for competitive bids from dealers in your area. Be specific about what you want. Let them know it is a competitive bid, but don't tell them who all the other bidders are. Then take the best offer. Don't let a higher bidder try to under cut the lowest bidder on the first round. When that happens, most likely, they are trying to dump a lemon.

Yes, you can negotiate. The dealer will be more flexible the more he wants to get that bike off his lot so he can get a new one to sell.

I live in the Midwest and yes you can deal with them. I bought a Harley Deuce in 05 and talked them down 1500.00 from what they were asking, plus they threw in a detachable windshield. Stand your ground and if they don't budge, you don't need the bike. Simple as that!!
