First off, we are not -- by any measure -- the most divided political country in the world. Political opinion is not the same as political division. We don't have democrats and republicans gunning each other down in the street.
Second, in no way was the goal to have them "come together as one." The goal was to stop one group from oppressing and KILLING the other groups.

In fact, if you think about it, the United States has more cultural and racial subsets living together peacefully than ANY other country, so who better to say that cultural acceptance should be the norm instead of the exception?

If you think we are the most divided political country in the world, you should see the way some of the lawmakers in the Far East act. Can't remember what country it was, but I remember seeing them on tv throwing microphone stands at one another.

On what do you base your argument that we are the most politically divided country in the world. Do some research and I can assure you that we are by comparison to a lot of countries united.

I know you libs want to portray America in a bad light every chance you get but I can assure you that you are completely wrong on this one!

so sorry, but america is far from the most divided nation in the world.

when last i checked, democrats, independents and republicans were not killing each other in the streets - and there was no murders at the polling stations during our last election.

but i would rank america in the top 200 most divided nations in the world...

Those aren't political groups, they are religous groups correct.

I was just thinking about this the other day. 90% of the worlds inner country disputes have to do with religion, when ours has to do with political parties. Shows what matters to us, money instead of religion and values....seems kind of wrong doesn't it. Well at least the values part, not religion.

From my experiences abroad I have serious doubts that we are the most divided politically. Where would your data sets be?

Edit: That's not conclusive evidence, just a bunch of name calling. I'm talking real empirical evidence. Go experience the world and deal with UN Peacekeepers during election time and then come back to us.

just because you smoke doesn't mean you shouldn't tell your friends not to smoke. i don't see us as divided. i see us as a country who has lost some moral direction and not because of the rep or dems but all of them combined. they need to focus on an american plan of action not a rep or dem plan. i may become a libertarian.
