Sorry taxi, I'm a middle-aged man and I do it all the time.
Most people smile back.
I think there is a noticeable difference between me smiling at people and the kind of look you're talking about.
Maybe not ! Don't care !
I am just a naturally happy guy.

this is an interesting question. it is annoying depending on the setting and situation.
Some people smile at you out of kindness
Some people smile at you coz' they are lonely
Some people smile to initiate a conversation
Some people smile at you coz they want something ...
Some are just idiots or mentally retared...
of course: The face that smiles at you can be creepy, friendly, or a great con artist !
You can always smile back or make faces at them or just walk away ... :)

Your talking to someone who walks around with a permanent S*it eating grin on their face all the time......OMG I'm annoying!!!! If I ever run into you,give me a heads up and I will do my best to turn that smile into a frown,but I won't be able to do if for long without cracking up so look quick and then look away.OK?

It depends if the person is a member of the opposite sex. Men: I want to knock them out. Women: I smile back!

usually i just see it as a sign that they're happy, actually i find it quite refreshing to see someone smiling at me, or just simply smiling...because i see way too many depressed people these days, we need more people who smile! :)

Actually I think more people need to do that. I do, however, freak out when someone on the train or bus is constantly looking at me, because it makes me think my zipper is down or something.
