I doubt that we will ever see a woman become president, although it would be a refreshing change. I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen. While there is a woman running now that doesn't mean that she has become president, so it isn't a fact as of yet so why mention it as some one already has. That would be jumping the gun just a little bit, I'd think!!
It really would be hard to say what the percentages would be. Maybe at least all of the women may vote for her, and who knows they may also like her campaign and what she has to say.

You need to realize that you live the the US and all that you guys hear about is whats going on in the US.
Now im not saying that your uncultured BUT realize that in other parts of the world there are and have been many Women presidents or primeminister in other country's. Even
Canada had it's share of a women in charge of the country.
To be realy and i mean seriously honest the US is NOT ready for a women as president. (HEAR ME OUT). You have to realise what the demographic groups are like in the US. (This is an estimating)
15% of the population are modernist, There the onces that would not have any trouble with having a women as president.
35% are old school religious people who still think that women are meant to be at home and raise the kids well the men go to work. Lets be honest US television show always seam to portray family's as having 2.5 kids and a dog. They wont vote for a women.
25% are the "red neck" type. There even older mentality the the religious group so don't even think of getting there votes.
5% are of religions that don't even allow women to talk there minds so don't even think about it.
10% are new generation of women and men who would definetly go for it.
and the last 10% would be the uncertain people, you know the once that never know what to pick so lets say we could count on 5% of them to vote yes and 5% no.
So your left with only 30% of people who would vote for a women.
Sadly enough even if the campaign was the best one ever it all comes down to the demographic groups.
I honestly hope that one day it gets better and that it becomes posible but until then im sorry to say it wont happen for a while.
But it would definetly make thing better for the US to have a women in charge. ^-^

I've thought of that myself too. A great woman president would be cool, but she's be just as great, not more or less, than a great male president. I hope whatever happens on future elections, that people will vote for who they think will do the job best and fairest and not concentrate on gender. Of course, the many votes for a woman president just because she's a woman might be a bit neutralized by the votes against her because she's a woman.

Hello, where have you been? This is going on right now, Hillary Clinton is running for President...::shuddering::. Personally, I would love it if Laura Bush would run for President. I think she would make a much better President than Hillary would. You can tell she cares more about the people than pleasing congress and getting votes.
PS-i'm not voting for Hillary Clinton, I thought it was cool at first but she has lost respect in my eyes.

We've had two women presidents in a row in Ireland and they have done a great job. In both instances, I am sure people didnt vote for them just because they were women (The first was voted in 1990, and Ireland didn't have a big feminist movement or agenda then)
They were voted in because of their political stance, they way the public percieved them and what they had to offer.
I'm aware of the speculation in the US regarding people's agenda when voting for a woman president - are they just doing it for feminism? I would like to think that we live in a world where people have the gumption to look at each politicians individual agenda.
People should be gender blind when it comes to politics, vote for who will make a difference to your country.

You have a very good point and I would guess the same could be said of a black person running for president though Obama seems to be a man that would rather run on his qualifications and vision. Which brings us to the real question where are all those bright women leaders? I certainly don't see enough of them in either party....

the % of the population would be small a most people do not vote. Of those that vote for her I assume 40% would include her gender in their decision. Most people have a pet issue and that is the main reason they pick a candidate.

I think that many voters WILL vote for her because she is a woman. That's no different than voting for someone for how handsome he is or what religion or race he is. Some of us will decide on what their stand is on the issues and what we can see about the candidate that is not necessarily what the candidate WANTS us to see. I pray that there will be many that vote that way.

I'm a man and if the woman qualifies I'll vote for her. But I think a small portion of the woman voters will vote for a woman just because it's a woman.
