Get her a nice bottle of wine or a massage at a local spa (if it's within your price range).

Why not just get her a card. Don't be a gift horse, or she'll be peering and judging the next gift you give. If you think you have a future with this guy, long term thing...start small...like a card. Then next year a card and a boquet of daisies, then as the years and relationship grows, you can get little more, like a card and a pedicure. (only about $30)

Sounds like she would like a boyfriend of her own or perhaps something with batteries from the Adam and Eve catalog.

You are getting her a gift because you are in a relationship with her son. When people are in long term or serious relationships and they purchase a gift for each others parents they do it TOGETHER. A joint gift allows you both to contribute to something that may be larger than what you could get alone - also since her son is involved in the process she is less likely to insult the gift.

At a tea and spice store or oriental store--- buy a glass tea pot, one with a wooden stand to put it on, and buy an assortment of blooming tea. Jasmine bulb is my favorite. Sit down and quietly brew some hot water and place a bulb in the pot and with some pleasant oriental music in the backround sit and watch the flowering bulb in the pot. It will broaden her horizons because of the beauty and destressing atmosphere and you shall bond . This is a classy choice!

Get her a gift certificate for a pedicure/manicure at a local nail salon.
