Should any of the major powers been involved in the Vietnam conflict?

No, if France would have recognized Vietnam's claim to independence, and if the superpowers would have respected the wishes of the Vietnamese people, no superpowers would have been needed.

Everyonce in a while America finds something new to concentrate on. Since world war II there has been a pattern of America feeling scared of some sort of -ism. There was Vietnam and communism, now its Irap and terrorism. It's like to keep our country running our government feels they need to instal fear into all of the citizens. The point is no, other countries did not need to get involved. Vietnam was the first war looked at by our nation through the media and thats why it and every "war" since then has had a negative image and not that heroic, patriotic, tie a yellow ribbon around that old oak tree feeling.

Keep in mind that we had been in a Cold War with the Soviet Union so Vietnam pitted the U.S., its allies and the Republic of Vietnam against the Soviet Union, its allies, the People's Republic of China and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Our foreign policy during the Cold War included the "domino theory"--the fear that if one country fell to communism then other countries would fall to communism, just as knocking one domino over causes all the others to fall, one after another.

It is hard to say. Probably they should have. The alternative was to sit by and watch thousands die at the hands of evil men. It was not fought correctly but I think it was necessary
