Things a person says stay with you forever. I was a chunky kid and my mom and dad never had any weight issues. They used to say things that really hurt me- and I don't think they even thought about it at the time. I still have weight issues and food is always my enemy and lover at the same time. I do feel like some things they said affect the way I eat today- 20 years later.

I got spankings. My mom was not the verbal abuse kind.

Both. It took me a long time to get over it. I thought I was worthless for the longest time. It wasn't until I was an adult that I found out that was how my father's father treated him. I wish he could have changed for me but he didn't. I changed for my children though. I never spanked them or verbally abused them.

l am one of the lucky ones, my parents didn't spank or talk nasty to me. l grew up knowing l was loved. Wish all kids could be treated this way. I passed it on, and so did my kids,
