Ive taking off the vavle cover due to some knocking and car not driving but still running, and found one pushrod bent and the other completly sticking out of the rocker arm. So what would caouse the push rod to stick out like that could it be becouse the other one was bent already and caoused all this knocking and then letting the other one out and caousing the car to not run?

Sounds like the rocker was loose and either got caught up on one of the pushrods,or the rocker was so worn that the pushrod actually penetrated it,causing the rocker to malfunction and bending the other. If you do not have one already, buy a chiltons manual for your car.You may have to order ne,because you dont see many of them anymore.Basic motor parts are still available though.I would check every rocker for proper backlash and torque on the rocker bolts. If any of them seem excessively worn, replace them.If all of them are in poor shape, you may want to consider a top end rebuild. Also, you mentioned in youe letter that it was running, but in the end you said it was not.If it is not running now,you can have a serious engine problem.I would pull the heads and check to see if the piston is ok.It is possible that you have a catostophic failure. You did not include size of motor,or 6 or 8 cyl,but I would assume it's either a 304,or 360,unless you have had an engine swap and are sporting a 401.In any case,a little time spent now will save you a lot later.Keep in mind also that it's almost 28 years old,so most parts will have to be ordered. You can find good quality rebuilds online.Check out Summit,Jegs,or if that doesnt work, check out Hemmings Motor News. They have stock rebild kits available from their advertisers in their book.I believe one name is Eggberts....Good Luck from the Javelin Man.....

Hmm.. this is not good.

At the very least you need to have the head(s) repaired or maybe replaced. If the pushrod is bent then the valve is likely shot or damaged (your best hope) (or the camshaft - which drives the pushrods is damaged).

But, with all the knocking that would tend to indicate that the valves have gone and (it gets even better) that might mean that your piston(s) have been doing a job on the broken valve and the combustion chamber (the head AND the cylinder).

Soo.. the only way you are going to find out is to pull the head off. You need to do the valve job anyway and you will be able to see if a piston is blown or if your cylinder is all scored.

Worst case: new engine time if the block is not re-buildable
Best case: valve job and related 'extras'

good luck..

Sounds like the engine has been over rev-ed. When this happens the stress on the push rods is so large that they bend and can knock out the rods next to them.
If there is no other damage to the engine you can change them out with new rod.
You will need to make sure there is no other damage to the valve train as potentially there can be wear on the running surfaces of the slippers.

valves may be bend.
compression test.(remove all the spark plugs )
if valves are not...
replace the the bend push rods
then adjust the lifters ( this time do it right)and forget the episode.

Over reving, a stuck valve(s), or piston contacting the valve.
