I plan on paying for it. & by cable I mean I didn't want to go thru Comcast or Otimum or something that would make me get the TV & internet package. I just want the internet package alone. Anyway, I appreciate all the input so far. Keep em coming :)

Without cable or phone, ther are three other widely available options:

1) Broadband cellualr service - it you can get a cell phone signal, you can probably get broadband cellualar Internet. In the Us, Verison, Sprint/Netxtel, Cingular, T-Mobile all offer this type of service.

2) Sattelite service is another way to go. Go to DirectTV or Dish Network and check their plans. Not available in all areas.

3) Verizon FiOs is another service that is widely available for Internet (and phone an TV too in some markets).

The short answer Maybe. Just contact your DSL provider and see if it is available in your area, if DSL is available then ask them if you can get the DSL without a landline, I did it so I know it's possible and they'll know if that service is available in your area. If they don't then you could always get a cable modem but if you don't get cable then your options become limited. There are satellite Internet but I don't know anything about that.

If you are looking for wireless Internet for your computer, then you'll need to go through a cable anyways. And you'll need a wireless router or some type of broadcasting attenna. The cable will plug into that, and then transmit it wirelessly.

Satellite service. Huges Communications and I think Direct TV may offer it some areas.

Verizon FiOS is a wireless high-speed provider. Very expensive, however. I believe all the major cellular companies has similar services.

Direcway from DirecTV is also availiable -- it is a high speed internet provider that uses low-orbiting satellites.

Most cellular providers now have high-speed available. There are also national wireless providers like ClearWire.
