Just like most of the other stupid holidays people celebrate, it's just another excuse to get drunk and party. Not to disrespect any true Mexicans, but Cinqo de Mayo isn't even a real "holiday", it's just the day they won a battle they were outnumbered in.

P.S.- I guess it has more merit than April 20th :-p

I sure as hell will not be celebrating it, I am picking up my daughter early from school today to keep her out of the stupid Field trip to a cinco de mayo festival. This is America and do not need to be taking school hours to learn that mexicans use that holiday to party, get drunk, and play what sounds like circus music. Teach kids what the holiday means and leave it at that.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla (fought against the French). The Mexicans lost the war but celebrate the battle.

American's like it because it's a day to drink.

Well, if the French had won that war, they would have turned their attention to the US next, so, why not celebrate?

'Course, all my son learned about it in elementary school was, "it's a day to eat Mexican food!" Some educational system we have, eh?
