So far only the Rules Committee has OK'd it,; the oversight committee still needs to approve it. If so, it would not start until the 2008-09 season.
The good thing about it would be that teams would actually develop an inside game (more points in the paint, more inside jumpers) and centers and forwards would stop jacking up boneheaded triples. The bad part is that intially shooting percentages would go down; there would also be multiple lines on the court leading to confusion amongst some players, but there shouldn't be much of a problem adapting to it.

It's to change the balance of the game. If the NCAA decided to move the 3 point line back a foot, then that means they think too many teams are doing nothing but shooting 3s every game. They want the focus of the game back around the rim.

It was too close and too easy to hit. It takes away from the inside game. Even at back a foot it it still 2-3 feet closer depending on where you shoot from than the NBA line.

It is too easy right now. You may not think moving it back a foot is much but there will be a lot of missed shots when it goes in affect.
Also, by moving it back a foot, Power forwards and Centers may stop trying to shoot 3s and concentrate on their inside game.
