That should be fine. As long as the undergravel has air moving up the tubes it's working. Now, the finer bubbles made by an airstone are far better than the large bubbles from the end of the tube, but that will do until you can replace the air stone.

The bubbles from an air stone don't add much O2 to the water. What does the aeration is the bubbles breaking the surface tension of the water, this is where the real gas exchange takes place,so anything that ruffles(?) the surface contributes to aeration. I have 8 fairly large tanks running now,and no air stones at all. Don't worry,be happy.-----PeeTee

Yes as long as it is still making bubbles it will be ok untill you get a new stone. This has happened in my tank a few times... We finaly bought a little box of the stone thingys and now when it happens we can just replace it... (fresh water fish)

You will need to get a stone as soon as posable but its not a complete emergency. On your way home from work stop at your local walmart or petsmart and pick one up and install it when you get home. Then they will be fine. Good Luck!
