Most OB/gyn don't want to see you until you are 8 - 10 weeks along. You'll want to buy your own over the counter Prenatal Vitamins today. Take them with a full meal and a glass of milk. They need fat to be absorbed, so please don't ever take them on an empty stomach. Many women claim they cannot take prenatal vitamins, but if they took them WITH food they probably could.
If you are in doubt of when you became pregnant, or "feel bigger" to the doctor that examines you, you could have an ultrasound right away to measure the size of the fetus. They can tell you how far along you are by measuring the fetus.
Depending on your particular OB/gyn and your age and other factors you could have an ultrasound once or twice, or they might want to give you ultrasounds every month. I got pregnant for the first time at 36, they consider that Advanced Maternal Age so they kept a close eye on the baby and me.
Congratulations on your baby!! That's terrific!! Now get to Target, WalMart, GNC, or CVS and get some over-the-counter Prenatal Vitamins. I really love the Target brand of Prenatals. They have been great for all of my pregnancies and I've never even thought about buying the prescription vitamins. Targets have the same vitamins and minerals, plus it's one less prescription you have to fill every month.
Good luck to you, sugar. Take care.

As soon as you think, or know you are pregnant you should go see your Dr. they can confirm the pregnancy, if you are not sure and then set you on the right path for prenatal care.
Usually they will send you to see a Midwife, and an appointment will be made. this can be anywhere between 8 and 12 weeks. Early is great beacuse you get over all the paperwork that is involved, basic blood tests etc, also it gives you a chance to ask anything you want to know as early as possible. As any of you who have kids know, early pregnancy, especially the first time is an emotional roller coaster, you are nervous and scared. So this is all good to help with that.
The Midwife will then arrnage your appointments for during the pregnancy. Here in Uk that will involve a couple of hospital and or Dr appointments as well as the Midwife meetings. Neare the end of the pregnancy they will be more frequesnt.
The scan is usually done between 16 to 18 weeks, however if there is any medical history that requires it you will be given an early scan. I had one at 6 weeks for instance because of having infertility treatment. There is risk in the early ones as they are done internally, so bear that in mind. They do like doing them to you but once I knew I refused with my second pregnancy! So you do have choice.
you can also choose these days to go private and pay for a scan where you get moving pictures of your baby on a DVD, but in order to get good pictures you would need to do that a lot later, say 20 weeks or later...
So my answwer is, go as soon as possible and get underway. they will tell you what to do and when!
Loads of luck!

You need to go to the doctor right away if you have only just done a home test. He will answer all of your questions and give you all the info you need, as well they will do some preliminary blood work.
Generally, your first prenatal check up will be at 12 weeks, and your first ultrasound they like to do at around 16-18 wks to insure the baby is large enough to get an accurate view of all organs, etc. If you have any spotting or bleeding, pain or other abnormal occurrence before this time, see your doctor immediately, regardless what week you are in, and he will book an earlier ultrasound if necessary. Doctors also tend to like to get you in for an ultrasound earlier if you are unsure of the date of your last menstrual period.
Take care of yourself, and good luck on your exciting journey through pregnancy and beyond!!

Make an appointment for a prenatal check up. They will let you know when to schedule your ultrasound. *If you want to know the sex of the baby, I would wait until at least 20 weeks* But, in the mean time run down to your local pharm. and pick up some over the counter folic acid and/or prenatal vitamins. Congratulations!

Normally any doc won't see your until you're at least 8 weeks. They usually give an ultrasound at your first visit to determine the exact due date of the baby.

Most doctors won't see a new pregnancy patient until some time between your 8th and 12th week. You don't schedule your own ultrasound, the doctor will do that. Most healthy pregnancies only have one ultrasound, at around 20 weeks (and many insurance companies will only cover that one ultrasound). Good luck!

Doctors disagree when you should get your first ultrasound, but my doctor liked to have it at 4.5 months because you can see the baby more clearly, any less than that and it is really small and more than that it is too big
