Yep my hubby had 7 brothers and sisters in a two bedroom house and he turned out fine.
It's called affluance - keeping up with the Jones. American culture and influance from TV - everyone has a nice home, their own room, car etc.
children are programed by the TV advertisers to consume to have bigger and better things. We live in a throw a way society. I can remember when appliances lasted 20 years, now they are good for 5 at best.

What I'd like to know is, why do so many couples have their first child and immediately rush out to buy a mini-van or an SUV. You mean to tell me that your four door Honda Accord won't accomodate a newborn's car seat? Booster seat when the child gets older? The trunk won't hold the sporting equipment/ballet uniform, etc. when your kids start doing extracirricular activies later? It really makes me sick. I think larger automobiles like this are fine for stay-at-home moms who carpool kids to school or after-school events, but come on--enough is enough!
I grew up with an older sister, younger brother, mom, step dad and great grandmother. We lived in a one story ranch (with a furnished basement), 1 1/2 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. I grew up just fine and wasn't physically scarred for life because I had to share a bedroom with my older sister... We also had smaller cars. At one point we had a Chevy Citation, then my mom sold it and bought a Ford Escort. The three of us kids fit just fine in that. I don't know what's wrong with people these days other than greed and gluttony.

I just moved my mother from california where she was living in a one bedroom apt . Here to north carolina and put her in a three bedroom home and she lives alone. But she loves the extra space she has her comp sewing machine and tread mill in the extra room. Some couples both need full home offices . My mother loves that my children have there own room at her house when they come to stay at grandma's If she had gotten into a four bedroom she could have had a seperate guest room for when family or friends from out of town come to stay. Some couples want there own home gym. Or if they run a home business. As for me I would be in my element if I had a fully stocked craft room !!
