How do I repair drywall after wallpaper has damaged it?

I removed the wallpaper from my kitchen and some parts of the drywall have been damaged. It appears the first layer of drywall paper has been ripped off. In some places the drywall has dime size holes. I do not want to remove the drywall, I want to repair it. I don't have the money to replace it, but I do have time to repair it.

Get some drywall mud at your hardware store along with a putty knife (plastic will do) about 2 1/2 or three inches wide (wider than the largest hole up to about 4 inches) and some medium sandpaper. Folks at the hardward store will get you the mud you need. Fill in the holes and smooth out the mud. If the holes are deep, you'll need to re-do or add mud after it dries as there is shrinkage in the drying process. Be finicky about smoothing it out and you'll reduce the amount of sanding necessary. Presto!!

You will have to "skim it".Apply a thin layer of sheetroc mud over the spot,let dry,sand then paint.Skim and sanding may have to be repeated to achieve a totally smooth surface! View the repaired surface from a side angle to see small flaws! very low cost repair.

Get some spackle and a trowel and go to work smooting it out. Let it dry. Sand it with fine grit sandpaper. Paint it.

It is really a pretty simple process. Your local hardware store or home supply place will be able to help you pick out the right supplies.

Skim coat the entire area, its easy and cheap, on the real deep holes you will need to tape them prior to skimming
