i have loads of theories why it occurs. But its there are too many and are too long to put here. I get several deja vous a week. Sometimes as many as thrice a day. Only two months back i used to get a srong feeling of deja vous every single day of the week.

One of my theories, however, is that its a moment of dream-like free association. Where a neural signal goes the wrong way, which would explain why it occurs suddenly. There's a lot more to it than that, im sorry, but my wrist hurts, i've been on the computer for too long. so, later.

Your mind seeks familiarity, so in uncomfortable, or unfamiliar situations, your mind will compare your surroundings to those which have visited in the past and find similarities. Once the comparison is made, and you feel safe, familiarity takes over and you feel like you've been there before. For example, if you visit the home of a person far away and you feel homesick, your mind will examine the room for details which you remember such as a sofa, dining room table, photos, etc, and relate them to places you feel the most comfortable with, such as your own home. Suddenly, you feel like you've been there before, and in a way, you have.
