They're frequently used in the design of both rocket nozzles (which frequently have hyperbolic cross-sections) and cooling towers. Look at the cooling towers of a nuclear power station. They're usually 'hyperbolas of revolution'.

Those are the 2 that come to mind, but I'm sure that there are others ☺
