I recently started taking low-ogestrel for birth control. I haven't had any problems except that I've noticed my sex drive is a lower than it used to be. Is this a possible side effect of the birth control, or is it just me? Please no rude comments. Thanks.

To the person who called me a whore, you're very uninformed and crude. I'm married to a wonderful man and I've only ever had sex with him. I was a virgin until I got married. So shove it.

I am on the same birth control and the first month I took it, my drive just wasn't there. I'm on my third month of taking it and I'm just getting my drive back. I guess you body needs to get adjusted to it.

Hormonal contraception can affect your drive indeed.
I know it for sure in the case of antiandrogenic pills, but I guess that a single individual might react like this also with other compositions.
When I was on a low dose pill I turned a bit depressive, esp. in the placebo week.
Try talk your gyn about it: they might give you an alternative composition that does not affect your mood or drive this much.
I often get the feeling that finding the right one is very much a trial and error process

I had the same problem. It is a side effect from the drug, read the information packet they come with. I dont suggest this but I dont take birthcontrol for this reason. I think the real birth control is the fact that you never want to have sex so how can you get pregnate. HAHAHAHa. maybe talk to your dr about other methods or try the pull out one...

I'm pretty sure that some birth controll can have an impact on your sex drive, either raising or lowering it. It does trick your body into thinking it's pregnant after all.

It is common for this to happen. If it is really distracting, talk to your Md and try a different bc. This is VERY common with the depo injection so I advise against it.

Yes, birth control lowers sex drive, causes PMS, cancer and a whole array of other undesirable side effects that are never really pointed out and often times dismissed.

There are other options to preventing pregnancy, and worth considering.

Best of luck to you!
