I am hoping to go away with my partner this year and we would love to book a villa that is completely private and secluded in a nice, sunny area. We want to go somewhere classy and picturesque though and nowhere crowded or a typical "Brits abroad" area. Hope you can help!

Italy is lovely and there are many villas to rent. There was an excellent article in Conde Nast's Traveler recently that discussed what to look for in a villa and how to get the best one for you. I strongly encourage you to look the article up on line. It was very informative and offered a lot of unique solutions and ideas.

There are lots of secluded places near Monoco along the Riveria. There are also a lot of small towns in the Tuscan region. Though both of those might be too "touristy" for you.

I'd think Austria would be your best bet. There are lots of areas around Salzburg, but you could also consider more lakeside areas such as Klagenfurt. That definitely meets the criteria for beautiful and remote--though it depends on what you are interested in doing while there.

You also mentioned sunny and no place does that as well as the Greek Isles. There are so many to chose from that aren't the tourist destinations but are still inhabited islands. Though I've never been to Greece, I have several friends who have and its definitely on my list of places I must go. It's one of the few places in Europe that doesn't seem "global" and rather unicultural--in so much as a merge it has lost its own customs-- and instead still feels like a unique country.

Both of those are classy and picturesque (though on the expensive side) and from my understanding not to much a "Brits aboard" as other areas. More locals than tourists.

I would definitely choose Sweden. Its not a place most people would choose to spend their holiday at but its a very beautiful country. My husband is from there and we visit often. SO amazingly clean, beautiful country side and nice people. Plus lots of outdoor things to do. They even have nice beaches. Plus no Brits! :) At least I have never met one while visiting out there. There are loads of beautiful secluded spots all over the country but I would recommend staying in the South of Sweden. You can rent a cabin or stay at a hostel which are SUPER clean and nice. I am from New York and had a hard time with the idea of sharing a shower but it was so clean I had no problems at all. I was so impressed with it. Here are some links to help you out and give you ideas:

I have to say after sharing my pictures of our visit last year ALL of my friends and family want to visit.

Hope this helped you! :)

You can find such places all over the mediteranean etc even in places that might otherwise be closely related with the "Brits abroad" crowd such as Mallorca, Ibiza and Tenerife. You only need move a few miles from the popular package holiday resorts and you are in a different world.

We (my wife and I) stayed in the Villa Gemini just outside Guia (near Albufeira) in the Algarve. It's set in a vineyard and the walk home after a nice meal at one of Guia's excellent restaurants is both safe and romantic. It's far enough from the town for privacy and near enough to walk if you fancy a drink.
Enjoy.

I would recommend Tuscany, Italy. It's a beautiful place! I don't know much about villas...I think you could get a private villa there, but I'm not sure. It might be worth looking it up.
