Although President Reagan perpetuated some old trends and started some of his own that caused problems it would be ludicrous to lay everything at his feet. Many former Presidents have added to all our problems as has Congress and perhaps the Supreme Court (although far less). Frankly, anyone and everyone in national politics should be fired for the mess they have created over the last 50 years. A bunch of elementary school children would have done better through just pure luck.

I am no fan of Reagan but I will differ with you on problems starting with Reagan. He inherited some and created some of his own. After Watergate and the poorly run presedency of Jimmy Carter America needed a boost. We were in need of some energy, a pep talk, and the Gipper was just the one to do it. With his gift of gab, the great communicator, a charismatic sort, convinced people that anything was possible again. He out spent the Soviet Union on armaments to the point that they could no longer compete. His trickle down theory of economics has proven to be disasterous.
While Reagan restored America's pride and confidence the aftermath of much of his economic policies created wealth only for those who already were wealthy but for the rest of us we had to do with less. George H.W. Bush called Reagan's economic policies voodoo economics. Unfortunately because of Reagan's near god like popularity Bush chose to continue them but he did not have the charisma and ability Reagan had to sell that to the American people.
Unlike the current President, who envoked Reagan's legacy to get elected, Reagan used diplomacy as much as possible.
The Iran/Contra affair was another black mark on Reagan's record.
Many credit the release of the American student hostages in Iran to him. Actually, through diplomatic means it was Jimmy Carter that got them released.
Reagan was also an opportunist. Intellegenc agencies told him that things in the Soviet Block were falling apart especially in East Germany. So Reagan took the opportunity for the greatest photo op and sound bite of his life. He stood at the Berlin wall and told Mr. Gorbechev to tear down the wall. Believe it when I tell you that if the Soviet Union wasn't already falling apart from within Gorby would have told Reagan where he could have put the wall. That would be where the sun doesn't shine.
Of course there was Nancy's astrologer who helped Nancy tell Ronnie where he could and could not go and when.
Too bad the astrologer was wrong on the day when Reagan was shot by John Hinkley. Being strong as an ox Reagan pulled through the shooting where someone else might not have been so lucky.
So, while Reagan was no great president he was no dud either. Perhaps historians and experts are right in putting him at slightly above dead center in rating the presidents.
No, people, Reagan was not a god. Get over it!

Reagan was the great communicator at least he believed in using diplomacy, The Bush family bastardized the legacy into a warmongering, neo-patriotic rally around the bible

No. He was actually good for this country. You problems started before Carter (I liked him), but we had SO many things going on at the same time. I think if he had not done the job HE had, Reagan would not have been able to do quite as much as he did.

It caused the Wall to come down? And it caused the Soviets to become free People. I can respect your opinon! But I ask that you except my request to go through your History Books. And see just what he did for America.

well, no, id say the flaw there was being bought and paid for by the oil and power company executives who were so short sighted and greedy that they would sacrifice the future for a couple bucks now instead of trillions later.

The city on the hill is the kind of delusions that simple minded people cling to. It has no bearing on reality and Reagan was great at making those kind of empty statements.
