No problem getting in as an undergraduate. You will have to audition - if you are one of the best young players in the world for your instrument, they will probably accept you. Otherwise, forget it. As a graduate student it is easier - you can get in, but they will expect you to be more self-motivating. You will have to provide your own obsessiveness or you will simply float along and never finish.

The NEC is a school for top musical talents who are totally obsessed with becoming world class musicians in the middle of a city obsessed with music. You will find all the musical competition and stimulation you can handle.

NEC is one of the best music schools in the world and it is extremely competitive to get into, however it is certainly not impossible
if you show not only your musical abilities and talents, but also your drive, determination, and willingness to learn and get better you definitely have an amazing change

personally, i disagree with matt. it is harder to get into grad school for music. as an undergrad, some people dont realize they want to go into music or they go somewhere like Yale or University of Washington (ie not a conservatory) and major in something else THEN realize they want to do music. therefore, you get more applicants for grad school rather than undergrad

i have not heard something like that, i believe that is only the grades you get that determines that. yet though i have not appeared into Grad college yet, yet you ought to bypass to the community college you intend to bypass to and ask them if it would want to impression your possibilities of shifting into Grad college. each from time to time community colleges have an internet web site that provides you an e mail so that you'll be able to ask questions, or some colleges have FAQs. i might want to examine that out if I were you.
