What advice might you have for someone who has decided to remain permanently single? Has anyone else out there made this decision? How is it working for you?

I would advise not closing your mind to relationships, keep an open mind and just enjoy your life, if you happen to meet someone along the way then don't think "Oh I can't take this any further, I decided to stay single". If you do remain single don't become all bitter and twisted and a loner, get out there and make the most of being single and having no responsibilities, travel the world, that's what I would do.

Ash yourself why you want to be permanently single? If it is because of some bad events, there will bound to be some good people around too. Then go on searching.

If it is conscious decision ... make sure you have ample cash and busy with activities, don't lead a seclusive life.

Well, it depends on a lot of levels.

If you are young, then it makes sense. You are not old enough to worry that you will be too old to date, and alone every night. It's nice to have someone you can say, "Remember that picnic we had ten years ago, the one at the beach?" So long term relationships hold a lot of value.

If you want kids, I recommend waiting until you ARE ready to marry. Wondering who's house you are spending what holiday is not something you want to choose for your kids, you know? Having kids out of wedlock is a bad idea usually if you have the choice, so don't choose it on purpose.

If you are a Bible believer, God said it's one man, one woman. That holds a lot of weight whether you believe it or not. Consider it good advice to think on. If you are not going to have s*x, ever then go for it.

If you are worried about STDs and first date freaks and not having one person to share memories with, one person you can always count on, then go for it.

According to the bible it states that if you can remain single then do so. Singlehood can be a blessing!!! Think of all the unwanted stress and pressure. Of course also it can be lonely, but if you have a good group of family and friends you can make your life fun and meaningful with out a significant other.

Given your decision, I admit to being curious why you posted this question in Marriage & Divorce rather than Singles & Dating. I have not made the same decision as you -- I have been married for 20 years, and it's working great for me. My recommendation to you is never to have any children; there are several disadvantages they face when their parents are not married.

It doesn't sound like a bad idea... Just lonely... You should get a pet... And some good porn... Obviously don't use them together... But yeah... Good luck
