Yes, this is possible, because on a dropped third strike the strikeout counts regarless if the runner is safe or out. To clarify, has one pitcher gotten 4 strikeouts in one half inning.

Four strikeout innings have happened several times.

Chuck Finley has done it more than once (May 12, 1999 August 15, 1999 and April 16, 2000).

There's never been a 5 strikeout inning in the major leagues.

Considering a full inning contains six putouts, sure, it's happened somewhere in the past.

But you probably mean a single, offensive half-inning. The major league record is four strikeouts. The minor league record is five; the last time I know of it happening was in the early 90s by Kelly Wunsch. Knuckleballer, he; well-established as the pitcher type of choice to get those dropped third strikes often.

It's happened plenty of times, as has been mentioned.

Kerry Wood had a shot at 5 K's in an inning in 2002. Two runners got on base after a third strike was not caught, however he got one out on a ball put in play (I think it was a ground out).

it fairly is what I envision a Joe Posnanski article looking like if he ever permit the evil out. DM is fairly reliable with pitching. Meche became a reliable sign nevertheless he's been ice chilly the previous 5 starts. Greinke is great. yet that offense, i don't know what number baseball video games this guy desires to observe, and how many geeks with MS Excel he desires to income that signing a bunch of skill hitters with .3 hundred OBP's isn't a reliable thank you to win baseball video games (they are additionally thirteenth in BA and Slugging to compliment that OBP).

Randy Johnson did it to the Dodgers in 2003. He struck the first two hitter out, then threw a pitch for strike 3 that went by the catcher, then Johnson struck out the next time in 3 pitches.

That's the only one I ever saw on tv.
