You could use it for both, using the methods you mentioned. But they'd only work on a bit over half of the Moon (the half that faces towards the Earth)

yes, but it would be a much different calendar. the rotation of the moon about its own axis would determine the length of the day and night. It does not spin at the same rate as the earth, therefore the days would be of a different length than they are on earth.

As an interesting side note..............venus' days are longer than its year!! Venus orbits the sun faster than it can make one rotation about its own axis, which makes its year shorter than its day. Pretty cool stuff!
