google "build a bandsaw" tons of options from wood to pipe. there are plans on Ebay all the time for bandsaws.

May not be the exact answer....
Been a while, but have seen very serviceable power tools built from off the shelf parts.
If recall correctly there were ads in Popular Mechanics or Mechanics illustrated.
Key parts were provided , but everything else had to be built.
Older neighbor built a tabletop bandsaw.
Wasn't pretty but suspect it will be around longer than a storebought. saw.

Go through woodworkers.com they have a full line of all home made tables for saws and drills, routers. I just built my own router table.
