I bought a Troybuilt push mower with a Briggs and Stratton 6.5hp V-Start back in 2005. I was then shipped to Iraq, but my wife back home continued to use the mower regularly. I get back in Oct '06, mow the lawn a few times, and then in the middle of cutting the grass one day it dies. I do all the normal checks, thinking it's probably out of gas. Everything was fine, and I haven't been able to start the mower since. The only obvious thing I could notice different was the air filter seemed to be soaked in gas. Since then, I have changed the air filter, spark plug, and added some new oil....still no luck. I was about to tear it down and clean it, but maybe there is an easier fix? I don't believe I am getting a spark from my plug, but I haven't checked in a dark room to be sure. I heard these newer mowers are really sensitive to dirt and dust, could this be the culprit? It's a brand new mower, I would really hate to have to replace it.

Try turning motor over Take the spark plug out if it is wet you have an ignition problem if its dry you have a fuel problem
If its dry put some petrol in the plug hole and if it fires up you have to clean the carby or if its a diaphragm. Carbie you may need to have the diaphragm replaced . If you have new plug check if the cut out wire for stop is not disconnected and if theres dirt grass etc around the cut out. 30 years repairing them.~~

There's no need to replace a mower that's only 2 years old unless you've been putting gravel in with the gas, and mowing fields of rock. Take it somewhere and have it serviced - it'll be a lot cheaper.

Doesn't the mower have a circuit breaker near the motor? Maybe a small round button? If it "pops" you may have to wait for the sensor to cool down before it can be reset.

The newer push-mowers I've seen have a "handle switch" that the user has to hold down on the handle while mowing. Could it be that the switch has somehow failed?
