Are you sure it's oil (dark brown) and not trans fluid (reddish). If it's oil, the rear main crankshaft seal is probably leaking and since the trans is directly behind this seal, the leak is coming out in the front of the trans where it bolts to the engine and down onto the pan where you have observed it. It could also be a leaking oil sending unit if it is located in that area of the engine like right above the area where the engine and trans meet. You may want to put some oil dye in the engine...you can buy this at a parts store...clean off any old oil residue from the engine as best you can and then drive it for a week or so. Then buy a blacklight bulb from a Homedepot or hardware store lighting department and put in in a droplight or clamplight and shine it on the area around the back of the motor/front of the trans and you should see the oil leak and dye stand out....try to trace the leak back to it's source to determine what's leaking.
Good luck, Paul

Rear main seal, or some other gasket. roll up your sleeves and get to looking bring the flash light and look really look for the leak, also check the rubber booths on the trans-axle at the trier and the transmission,
