my dad maintains marine aquarims and dealing with salt water he needs feeder fish for some of his puffers and triggers. feeder fish are like small sick goldfish that you can buy at like petco or petsmart or any pet store with fish. They are bred spacificly for feeding other fish, i know, its horrible. my dad has a small tank in our basement that he keeps his feeder fish in and i love to go and look at them. most of the time i try to get away with taking some of them and puting some in my beta bowl in my room. a few months ago i got 5 fish from the tank and he didn't notice. i have had one of the five fish for a very long time now, like two months, and considering they are sick and most of them have ick or some disease, that is a very long time for a feeder fish. just yesterday i put in two new and very healthy looking feeder fish and they are doing fine. the bigger new fish is so mean though. it acts like its in charge and won't let the other fish eat. what should i do?

First, you shouldn't be taking those feeder fish away. They are sick to begin with and that is part of the life cycle. Even so, your mean fish will have to be taken separated from the others. If it is still aggressive toward other fish even after it is no longer hungry you will need to take it out of the tank and put it in its own or put it in the feeder tank. Sorry but it really will eat or pick apart your other fish if you do not remove it.

First, return the mean fish to the tank so it won't bother your fish anymore. You might also think about what you are doing, really it's stealing from your dad. If you tell him your really interested I bet he would work with you for you to get a tank for a few goldfish. Your bowl isn't a good place to keep them and it's as much to blame for them dying as anything else honestly. Feeder gold fish can live just as long as any other goldfish, 40 years or more isn't uncommon IF you have the right place to keep them and can give them proper can. So own up to your dad and ask for his help, it will go a long way towards solving the problems.

I have had 4 feeder fish for 2 years. One of them is mean. It kills the others. It's about 5 inches long. I would suggest seperating the fish that isn't letting the others eat. Talk to your dad about them.

Well your problem is very likely the fact that they are in a bowl. Feeder fish are just comet goldfish, which can get up to a foot long and need large aquariums

No, i advise getting a higher tank. all of them will outgrow it. in case you keep that goldfish in a 10 gallon you'll stunt his boom meaning his body will end turning out to be yet his organs wont, ensuing in demise. per chance you should imagine about a stunning pond. I actually have 8 goldfish in a pond and they are between 2 inches to twelve inches lengthy. they purely keep turning out to be!
