i have had very special pets

"aussie" my precious lil australian terrier. he helped through surgery when i was young. we would pull ourselves "commando crawl" along on our bellies together. he ate doritos with me. My dad always said "he had the heart of a lion" , i tear up thinking of him now.

but now that i have children, there is no comparison. when i got sick of playin with aussie he went back outside with "gypsy" and "rebel".

i would lay my life down for my kids, i wouldn't for my pets.

i also "get" that some people can't have children (that would be devestating) but please don't compare your ANIMAL to my children!

I like dogs more than kids. But I respect every parents love for their kid. And I wouldn't say that animals are more important than or equal to kids.

Children are a gift, a precious gift that make our lives in the end so much better. To watch my children play and to play with them has a magical way of keeping me young.

To help them grow and learn and to see their smiling faces when they experience something new allows me almost to experience it for the first time.

To see their faces Christmas morning when they wake up and see a room filled with brilliant colors of Christmas and toys. Its just too wonderful to describe.

I could go on and on and then when I'm done I have to think about my kids compared to my wonderful pets......

Sorry pets,,,,,,your not even close, so forget that wagging tail and those puppy dog eyes..

Guilty. I used to do it all the time until I had children. Took me 9 years to get pregnant and having pets was the closest thing I could relate to having a child.

I had to answer your question just from the original part...I was about to write essentially what you put in the "extended" portion.

It's really true, and something I would not have known, had I not had children.
My dear Lab (greatest dog ever) became a Dog for the first time in his life when my child was born.
I honestly used to pray during my pregnancy: "Lord, please help me to love this baby as much as I love Will (my dog)" and I was serious.
There is just no comparison.
Yes, I would die for my children, but not for my dogs.

Also, for ANYONE who values pets over people, just consider that God (who made them both) tells us in Genesis that animals were given to us to have "dominion" over---which means to enjoy, to train, to use, to eat, etc.--but that we (humans) are His highest and favorite creation.

I know what you mean and frankly, I can not understand those people talking to pets like they were humans. I have the outmost respect for animals, but hey, kids are kids and they are beautiful in and out!!

I could have sworn I just answered this. Deja vu?

I pity people who do that. It's rather sad.

I agree. Animals are food.
