i disagree with the answers, i think we have the experience and the players to do just as good, if not better. we played crap on wednesday, but we have the balls to win in the future! the 99 team were excellent, but don't forget we have the same manager and he knows what he is doing. can anyone name another team who has won the cl with the same manager? i think utd will!

Don't get me wrong they're good, but not nearly as good as the team they had in 1999. Today we have a strike force that can rip throught defences of poor teams when it's on the top of it's game, but when it's having an off day, the rubbish defenders that it's up against, walks all over it. The midfield is not too bad, nothing really to complain about there. The defence is s**t. We only have 1 decent defender with 1 who's not too bad and the others are just "passengers."

1999 team and Team 2007

Jaap Stam Mikeal Silvestre
Ronny Johnsen Nemanja Vidic
Teddy Sheringham Rio Ferdinand
Andy Cole Wes Brown
Dwight Yorke John O'Shea
Peter Schmeichel Gary Neville
Henning Berg Patrice Evra
Gabriel Heinze
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ryan Giggs
Park Ji-Sung
Wayne Rooney
Louis Saha

There are many differences between the team of 99' who hadf won the treble compared to the team of nowadays (more so the current one). At the moment, the greatest weakest of the side is the ailing defence. With injuries to Ferdinand, Neville and Vidic. Despite the fact that Vidic played in the second leg against Man Utd, it was more than clear that he was unfit, and Sir Alex rushed him back into the side to compensate for the clear lack of a natural centre back.

In the 99' team players such as Dennis Irwin, Nicky Butt, Jaap Stam and Roy Keane were all more than capable of playing in many key position in the backling, and at the sole of the midfield. The greatest loss has been Roy Keane. The leadership, inspiration, passion and vision that he showed for the club will more than likely never be matched.

The team of 99' was EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS, and for this and many other reasons, the team of 99' will be pne that stays in the hearts of many!!

They have somework to do yet before they can emulate that team's achievements - most notably in basic defending and ball retention. One player could help a lot with this, Owen Hargreaves. The performance of Gattusso on Wednesday night showed how important it is to have a 'water carrier' in the team.

However, I do think this team has potential. They have shown it this season by getting to the latter stages of competitions, and chalking up some impressive victories on the way (Celtic, Liverpool, Roma, AC Milan). I think they need some greater strength in depth though if they are going to win the Treble again. Recent games have left second string players wanting. Reinforcements (especially in the strikeforce and at the heart of the defence) are needed.

from the 99 team there's only Roy Keane and Peter Schmicael that would walk into the current team with ease.
From the current team there's probably only Ronaldo that would get in the 99 team.
The current team does have better opposition in the domestic game but the 99 team had better opposition in europe. for me the current team need another year to grow together and be as strong as the 99 team.

Incomplete. No depth at the back, too reliant on Ronaldo to create the chances for Rooney. The '99 team had enough talent to field 2 competitive teams with enough able juniors to fill the benches, but to be fair, in '99 most of the top players who played in the premiership were happy to sit on the bench at Crapchester United & collect silverware, now they go to Chel$ea.or if your french, Arsenal.

Other than missing Roy Keane they are probably a better side, playing faster football. The likely of Giggs and Scholes are starting to slow down now but they are still great players. The real difference is that other teams have caught them up

As good as they are, they dont have a devastating front two partnership like we did in '99. Yorke and Cole were almost telepathic in their understanding one another.
We are shakey at the back although next season, Vidic and Ferdinand will be the best defencive partnership in the league.
