should revenge of the sith have been released today (may 4th) not just because of the pathetic joke but also because this year is the 30th anniversary of the release of the origional film

No. I think the entire second trilogy should have been released in a way so Revenge of the Sith was released on the anniversary date. Otherwise, there'd be too long a gap between Attack of the Clones and Sith.

I see no actual reason to. It's not a religious cult (unless you're a Brittish university student) and doesn't need 'special days'. Besides, could you really have waited any longer?

Sub-point: I hear Lucas is working on something set a couple of hundred years before Phantom Menace and/or a re-working of the origional trilogy with the new cast members and tech available. We can only hope huh?

Before you grumpy purists start griping about the idea of a re-make, bear in mind who'd be doing it eh? Surely the man himself can stay true to his own vision?

If I remember correctly didn't A New Hope premier in June of 1977. I remember it was warm and the lines at the theater were amazingly long.

It was kind of odd memory for me. My then girl friend, now wife, and I went to see the movie. With the heat of summer and all that body heat because of long lines of people, it made the heat in the theater rise dramatically and she passed out from heat prostration.

no, but i think there should have been a wide re-release of the original 1977 film.
