Why kill a spider anyway? People kill out of fear but in the UK spiders don't harm you unless its ones that have come here in bananas and the like. Its easy to kill something tiny like a spider that cant strike back but I would like to see someone squash a cobra or rattle snake. No the same brave people would run as fast as they could in the other direction.

I would never purposely kill a spider. They are very good to have around as they eat the annoying flies etc that come into your home. I have removed large spiders to outside but they usually come back!! I love em!

The reason for this is simply that spiders are by and large harmless to humans, but eat annoying or even harmful insects. There is no need to kill a spider (other than a dangerous one) and if you do, you are more likely to encounter flies, wasps, mosquitoes and moths. Ergo, bad luck.

Spiders represent divine blessings. Their webs get rid of insects from our homes. Their webs can also be used to treat burns. If it's unlucky to kill a spider it could be because it's handy to have them around.

Why would you want to kill a spider in the first place? What's it ever done to you?

I really don't like spiders but I try not to kill them, however, last night I let my cat round one up so my dog could eat it. Yes I know that's really mean and I do feel suitably guilty. But if it is bad luck is it the dogs bad luck or mine for letting her eat it?
