Your right. It's basically beacuse it is impossible to be racist towards whites. White people are not allowed to celebrate any culture of thier own and 'minorities' can get away with anything as any protests will be met with screams of 'racist'
I am far from racist, I have friens from all walks of life but this imbalance is very wrong.

It's not racist to ask this question :)
White people have been discriminating against black people throughtout history... it's only fair they can "take the mickey" a bit now..
I'd be very surprised of there was Asian only times in London swimming pools..

Are you sure about the Asian-only times in a London swimming club? Statements like that seem to take a life of their own, as they confirm one's deeply held views. Make sure of the facts before you take a stand.
What black shows on TV take the mickey out of white people? Sasha Baron Cohen (a white Londoner) has been taking the mickey out of the Black underclass street culture in the UK by playing Ali-G. Has anyone complained about racism so far? No, we all love the show.
C'mon, let's not take ourselves (and our race) too seriously sometimes. One sign of cultural maturity is being able to poke fun at each other's racial stereotypes and laugh about it. I have listened to white comedians make fun about black people and laughed my head off. (See Lisa Limpanelli).
If there is a good (white) comedian out there who makes fun of black stereotypes, without the intention to hurt people, I'll be the first to sign up for his show. Let's face it; the best comedy is usually politically-incorrect.

I agree. You got BET channel, black music awards, mobo; if white people had shows specifically just for them, I think there would be some complaints. But as far as taking the mickey out of whites, what does that mean? My favorite comedians are Chris Rock and Carlso Mendoza, because they rag on everyone.

Are they taking the mickey out of white people? Dave Chappelle doesn't seem to, he just targets stupidity and hypocrisy wherever it is, that's why he's so good.
I've often wondered what the point of the MOBO awards is though, they're not awards for music of black origin, they're awards for black people and if there was a white equivalent then yes I suspect there would be uproar.

I think that the statement that you made is true. black people shouldn't take the mickey out of white people and vise versa. I think that Black people tend to joke about their own experience and also how they are treated by whites. But if this offends people then it should stop. It is important to show people different diversities, but not segregate others from understanding other peoples point of view.
As for Black channels they are not only for black people. If you wish to listen to the music....listen. It was made by black people, but it is there for everyone to enjoy.

It has to do with the fact that when you integrate minority culture into the majority, it tends to get subsumed and lose its identity. Do people remember when rock and roll was considered "black" music?
Besides, the majority of TV channels are white oriented- not explicitly so, but in the sense that they're catering to a demographic that's going to be mostly white (because America is mostly white).

Not sure on my opinion about the racist/comedy thing, but at my local leisure centre in East London, there are specified sessions in the pool and gym for 'Women Only'.
At these times, the majority of women there are Asian. beause it is the only time they can exercise without wearing hijab (covering up).

Hope this is helpful!

i have to agree with you, there shouldnt be shows ridiculing white people either, otherwise we have to allow racist white shows ridiculing black people, like there were in the 70s and 80s (Rising Damp, ALf Garnett).
These shows shouldnt be in the public domain as they cause offence - shows like Comedy Jam should only be accessible by ticket only or on video/dvd, just like tickets to Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning's shows.
Edited to add - re asian swimming times, i have to take your word for it, i have never heard of that before. like the answerer below me, i HAVE heard of women only swimming, but not asian only. thats not right (and that would exclude me too, i'm not asian!!). thankfully i hate swimming lolol
I totally agree with you love

Its called entertainment. Seriously, that's not a smart answer. Now if they were serious In what they were saying I'm sure there would be an enormous uproar. Its just pure and simple entertainment.
