Perhaps its because although there are many genuine people on Yahoo Answers, there are a few real jerks, who we don't want to allow into our personal space through IM. Its a self-protective thing.

I used to have e-mail enabled, but found I was getting 15-20 letters a DAY from people who should have just asked their question in public. I imagine IM would be similar. I have it disabled on AOL most of the time, because when I am on-line, I find IM to be an incredible waste of time. It takes five minutes to say, "Hi, how are you doing?" with some people.

I don't allow IM. My reason is because I only have a few friends on my contacts list, and when I go on-line I like to chat with them and not have dozens of conversations going. Also if I let people IM me, I'm a bit worried that I'll get a fruitcake, who I won't be able to get rid of. I'm not really knowledgable on the internet, and so I'm not sure what I could be getting myself into

I allow email but not IMs. I have never used it, is one reason.

Another reason is that I must protect my privacy and identity.

Email's and Yahoo's email is nearly the same isn't it? Also, emails are saved so that the conversations may be reviewed later. Even Yahoo's email doesn't have that feature. What about IMS? They probably do not have that feature either.

That is no good for me. I want to think about whatever logic was exchanged.

Because they are afraid that their answers will not stand up to discussion or that they don't have time for real time chat on im. I allow email but not im because I never know what time of day I will be available but I amswer any email as soon as I get it.

There is always the risk of people stalking you. You might say something in an anwer you gave that did not agree with someone and they might get onto IM and won't let it go and start arguing with you or abuse you.

It happens!

People are intimidated by the fact that other users might retaliate or consult them if they have anything against their questions / answers / rating in YA.

To avoid people who make judgement on other people before looking into the muck in their own cupboard.

You are intelligent enough to understand what I mean... right? yes, or no?

Because I'm not online everytime....
Because I can not answer your ask....anytime you want.....
Even if I can online 24 hours....
I'm not a phsycolog or God who u can ask to chat anytime...
Imagine if there are at least 5 people every hours chat with you for answers...

God can do that...He can chat with all people in the world at the same time...
Even a phsycolog has practic time.(And you pay for it)

come on....
in Yahoo answer it's free
don't ask too much!
:)
