Wal-Mart should do an Enron!!
I didn't look at your links, but Wal-Mart is the evil empire in my mind - they should be listed as a terrorist cell. They are destroying the American way of life in several ways: small business enterprise, competitive strategy between businesses, lowering standards for ALL products for end users to reduce costs, etc. I could go on and on.
People need to ask themselves if they are willing to forego quality for a few cent savings - The unholy Wal-Mart is pocketing the profit and we are ALL paying for it, even if we don't shop there. For example: Wal-Mart TELLS a supplier they will only pay $20 for a DVD player but they will buy 20 million at once for a holiday special (this is a made-up example, just go with me); the supplier can't sell DVD players for $20 and be profitable, but they don't want to walk away from the volume potential, so they figure out how to make lower quality DVD players in a low-cost country so they can squeak a profit out of the transaction. Wal-Mart sells the DVD players on Black Friday for $25 and just made $100 million; plus they got people in the door to buy other cheap goods. But take it a step further . . . The supplier isn't going to run the cheap DVD players once; so they market them to everyone: Target, Best Buy, etc., and pretty soon the supplier's competitors have to lower their quality to sell DVD players and before you know it the only DVD players on the market are cheap DVD players that last a short period of time.
Think about it when you make a purchase. Every buying decision you make reverberates through the boardrooms of corporations around the world. Choose wisely.
Sorry about the rant, I hate Wal-Mart.

What good would be served by Wal-Mart going out of business? We saw what happened after 9/11 when airlines went out of business, now multiply that by how many stores in all the countries that Wal-Mart has stores in.
Capitalism is not a zero-sum-gain philosophy. Wal-Mart can makes millions of dollars, but so can any other company. I understand that Wal-Mart is a target (no pun intended) because of its size, but if Wal-mart goes, another store will just take its place.
The people who work at Wal-Mart are compensated for their time, and if they think they're underpaid, should go elsewhere. If they have marketable skills, another company will hire them. I would estimate that the vast majority of its employees ARE satisfied, but when you want to make a point, you sometimes have to leave out the facts that don't agree with you. This is what is happening here.

Speaking from this side of the pond...NOOOO!!!
Without Wal Mart, there will be no Asda. Without Asda I'd be lost! Most of the little house hold things I own came from Asda, because it's really good stuff, and a hell of a lot cheaper than anywhere else.

Not really, it's nice when I'm low on cash. But I usually go in the middle of the night to avoid all the skanky people that populate the aisles during the day.
