RAM is Random Access Memory. It is the primary memory of a computer system and all the information that the computers require during thier run time is stored in RAM.

The contents of RAM disappear once you switch off your system, so you can not permanently store any data in RAM.

RAM chips are fixed in dedicated slots. The number of available slots depend upon the mother board.

RAM or Random Access Memory is a piece of hardware found in your computer, they look like a candy bar :). Information is stored electronically on these devices so it can be found faster by the operation system. A computer can't start without RAM memory, a computer can go slow with a little RAM. The quantity of RAM is measured in MB just like a hard drive. So in a way RAM's are little hard drives with greater speeds then normal hard drives.

Easy Computer Course 101
Hard Drive = file cabinet
RAM = Dining Room Table
Cache = Pipe for files from File Cabinet to Dining Room Table

The more RAM you have - the more files can be out on the Table
at one time for servicing in Windows

best of luck!

That's normal for 32-bit versions of Windows desktop operating systems. You can lose anywhere from 256MB to 1GB because of the the need to reserve address space for memory-mapped I/O devices. A 64-bit version of Windows won't have this problem, or a 32-bit version of Windows that supports PAE (physical address extension) When you start the computer, the BIOS should correctly detect all 4GB or RAM.
