I got a new pair of black jeans a few weeks ago, and they are already starting to fade, and they weren't cheap so it can't be the quality. I really like these jeans and dont want them to fade, they are black, but going gray. Do you know how i can stop them from fading?

All jeans fade, expensive or cheap.
I dry mine inside, instead of out in the sun.
Perhaps use cold water to wash instead of hot?
Maybe you could try to dye them when they're too faded.

First off wash your dark clothes in cold water only, because warm water fades colors faster. Then use a specially formulated detergent and softener (like Woolite dark). Lastly, try to hang dry your darks a much as possible due to the fact that the heat from the dryer fades darks as well...

Don't put them in the dryer. Dryers cause major damage to clothes- wears them out & fades them. Line dry as much as possible.
There is also a laundry soap that is meant for dark clothes. I haven't tried it yet but I keep meaning to because I wear tons of black clothes & I don't want them to fade either.

Using a detergent that is especially for dark or light clothes would probably be a great idea. For a simple fix turn all of your clothes inside out and that will help control the fading. :)

use fabric softener and a color protectant detergent like Tide. You probably have hard water. Here in south florida we have really hard water and we too have the color fading problem in a bad way. The best thing would be to get a water softener system, but if u can't get that try the fabric softener thing.

this is a weird remedy, but my friend swears by it. you take your black clothes stick them in the washer let the water fill up, and dump 2 cans of coca cola into the wash let is spin for a second so that the cola is evenly despensed and let it sit overnight.

or just hang dry your pants, drying it in a dyer is a sure way to make them fade a lot sooner.

A lot of the problem could be the chlorine in your municipal water supply. I would really encourage you to use a water softener and an activated charcoal water filter on your household water system.

A color stabilizer will also help.

I started washing all my dark clothes in either Woolite for Darks or Cheer for Darks (the products are comparable, in my opinion) when I started noticing the same thing with my clothes. Works great.
