...wanting to buy a new video card and wondering about limitations. I have an older board (very stable) and want to better experience my Vista OS.

Do not confuse system RAM on mobo with onboard videoRAM in the graphics card. They work independently and need not be the same.

If you want fast graphics for games, get a graphics card w/ ddr3 videoRAM. BIOS limitation would be on AGP bus. Very old mobo support 2X AGP only, newer ones support 8X AGP. It is pointless to buy a fast and expensive AGP card if you only have 2X AGP.

Another limitation is power supply. Fast and powerful cards require a bigger power supply.
