You can email me for more, but there is a lot to do.
You can spend months exploring all the shops in Old Sacramento, and touring the Railroad Museum. Friday nights are free concerts in the park across from City Hall at 9th and I streets. In mid-town, from 16th to 29th streets, and H Street to Capitol Avenue, is "Lavender Heights," the artists enclave. It has upscale and quirky shops, cafes and restaurants worth trying (all of them!) art supply stores and art galleries.
One of the best things to do with your Second Saturday is the museum walk. There are somewhere around 110 art galleries in town, and every second Saturday at around 6pm you pick one, and start there. You continue on until you have seen as many as you want. The art scene in Sacramento was developed by some of the most famous living artists in the country, professors at SCC and UCD, still. Channel 6, PBS, has an art auction so prestigious the artists have to submit their art in hopes they will be chosen to donate it for the annual sale.
William Land Park, Land Park Drive and Sutterville Road, has numerous amenities for families. The Zoo, in the park and across the street from "Fairytale Town (I could spend 2 pages on it) has a good collection and lots of charity events dreamed up by very clever people.
As the staging point for the Gold Rush, there is a lot of history in Sacramento. There is so much to do I couldn't do it much justice in one answer. For further info, go to the Sacramento Bee and the Sacramento News and Review. They have lots of articles in their archives that can help you find more. And Sacramento is about 2 to 3 hours away from anything else you might dream of doing, too!

Sacramento has virtually nothing to do. It has sub-par entertainment, sub-par dining, and useless recreation. I highly suggest getting up into the Sierras or going to San Francisco. Please keep in mind that Sacramento started as a brothel town for gold miners on their way to and from San Francisco and the Hills. Sacramento is known in real cities as the ultimate test market. It's bland and banal like most of America; so it's a great place to test out new products -- like Rush Limbah!

If you are old enough, go to nearby Napa Valley and tour the vinyards and wineries. It's a beautiful part of the state, the tours are interesting, and you get samples!
