My opinion:
Work on his low post game and work on catch and shoot against smothering D. He can do it. He's got to hit the gym like never before and decide he wants to put in the long hours and raise the level.
What do you think?

i think most of us would say that dirk needs to develop a post game. with his height and size he should be a huge defensive threat but he isn't. so he needs to be a better defender and also he needs a post game. also he has to get stronger and faster. dirk better be putting in some serious work this off season or next season will end like this one.

He's got to stop letting people push him out of the paint. He's letting smaller guards and small forwards push him out and forcing him to shoot J's all the time. He needs to hit the gym and prove Dwyane Wade wrong...that he is not a leader and doesn't show up when the team needs him. Sounds as if Wade has a point there. Dirk scored 8 points on 2-13 shooting and his team really needed him. He needs to hit the gym, big time. He needs someone to donate a heart and he also lacks the testicular fortitude that superstars have that wins games. What he can also do is give back the MVP award, if he wins it, because he did nothing to prove himself worthy of such an honor. If you're not even the best player on your team how the hell can you be the most valuable player in the NBA?

Well, Dirk is over looked now, but he and his team had their chances. The Mavs/Dirk were extremely popular from 2001 to 2005 but after the loss in the finals and the collapse to Golden State he wasn't held in the same light. It didn't help that the Mavs went from championship contenders to just a really good playoff team after 2007. Flashier young players like (Durant, Roy, Rose) came into the league and players like Lebron, Wade, Melo and Kobe had championship contending teams and the focus shifted to them. Dirk is still playing MVP caliber ball, but so are Lebron, Kobe, Wade and Melo, and they're also "highlight" type players. Dirk is not a flashy player, so the only way he gets a lot of media time, or his "respect" again is if the Mavs are competing for a championship.

Dirk is who he is, he won't change now. He's played 8, 9 years in the nba, and what you see, is what you get. He's an outside shooter and turn around shooter. His ball handling skills aren't good, so it's hard for him to drive to the basket, cause smaller forwards can strip the ball from him. He has the EURO attitude, so it's hard for him to have aggression and a "F*ck you" attitude. He will always be considered as soft and a player who chokes under pressure. He's not a team leader and he can't carry a team on his back, that what "real" MVP players do. Mavericks need defense and physical players who can rebound the ball, to win an NBA title. They need a star player who can carry a team, someone they don't have.

I do not think he will ever be good in low post (body, and mentality, can't handle it). What he needs is good point guard (I know he HAD one of the best-Baron IS the best btw) that knows how to use him. Maybe like the pick and roll like in Stockton to Malone days. He can never win on his own, that was proven. If they do not get a great pg with him (like a Chauncey, who can perform in playoffs), then he will end up like KG

he might be too "soft" to be a banger. he is a jumpshooter and i dont think hes going to change. he is the closest thing to larry bird. dirk shouldnt have to change his game. he is a very good player, it was probably matchups more than anything. dirk never struggled against other teams like he does with golden state.

he should improve more on his defence

he is a good offensive player he can shoot 3's, he can drive inside, he has good ball handling skills etc.

he's defensive game should improve so that he can defend players like tim duncan, amare stoudamire, kevin garnett etc.

he can't even outmuscle baron davis in defence

he is just standing near the basket and waiting for the charge
he's not rebounding, blocking and stealing the ball and that's why dallas lost to the warriors in the first round
