To be graceful in hula, practicing the movements alot should make them easier to perform, thus looking more graceful. It helps to start doing the movements extra slowly until you feel comfortable with it, then work on doing it at the correct speed. Whenever you forget a move, the one thing that you do NOT want to do is just stop moving and have the "deer in the headlights look". If you're doing a solo and you can't remember the correct move, substitute something simple (ad lib) until you can get back into the routine. You can practice a couple of simple moves that would be easy to do at any time during the routine, so you're comfortable with them. If you're doing a troupe routine, watch the leader in your peripheral vision, so you can get back into the movement easier. If you happen to be the lead in a troupe routine, everyone should follow whatever you do... NO MATTER WHAT. I have been in several troupe routines and after we've rehearsed MANY times the movements start to flow naturally at the correct place in the music. Good luck!!

First, keep smiling; then catch up to where the other dancers are without coming to a stop. One thing that always helped me with that kind of incident whether it was a balance beam routine in competition, a piece of music for my fife and drum corps, or lines in front of a paying audience was to "over learn" my part. That means to practice, practice, practice. Once you know you know the routine, practice even more! It works.
