The cheapest motels are those no-tell motels between TI and Stratosphere... EW. If you don't want to stay at one of the Strip hotels, there's a Hampton Inn just off Tropicana - about a block from NYNY and Excalibur. It was about $60 a night and it's clean.

Don't go for cheap hotels because the cheap ones are too far from the entertainment.

I learned that the hard way because I spent most of my time walking or taking taxis to where I wanted to go. One block literally takes 1 hour to walk through. My friend wore sandals and he ended up with a bunch of blisters on his feet at the end of the day.

It's illegal for taxis stop to pick people up on the strip. So, you'll have to wait in line at a hotel to get a taxi.

If you want to enjoy your stay at Vegas stay at a hotel where the action is. MGM, NYNY, Tropicana, Excaliber, Monte Caro are connected and you can just ride an escalator to each hotel.

The middle of the strip has like 10 hotels near each other.

Here's a map of the strip:

The Wild, Wild, West is a Casino/Hotel that has rates that would be hard to beat. They market towards Truck Drivers and offer good food discounts as well. Clean and Cheap right on Tropicana and I-15.
