I'm a woman, and I'm wondering if there are differences in job interviews when being interviewed by a man or woman (aside from your own qualifications). Do you think it might be easier with the opposite sex? Do you think looks make a difference? Would women be more put off by good looking women, and vice versa for men?

Just wondering hehe...maybe next time I'll watch how I dress myself. Thanks for your responses!

If there is a significant age difference (I'm younger), I'm more comfortable being interviewed by a woman.
If our ages are comparable, I prefer being interviewed by a man. Women of my age make me intensely nervous and I always feel like I'm being judged.

For women - it's always a threat to them in some fashion. If not during the interview then certainly later when one is hired it shows up. Sometimes - not always

For men - they seem much more "relaxed" looking for someone who can do the job. Not that the women aren't - but seem a little more professional, and are not threatened bringing a woman aboard.

As for your job searches - no matter which are interviewing you - make sure you speak up about what you think you are worth as their employee. Not only what you have to offer them, but also what you think your pay should be. They (women salary advisers) have been saying that women who are interviewed for jobs, do not speak up about what they should be paid for the position they are hired for. And men always do. Do some research and see what guys would accept as salary for the same job you would apply for. Get an idea from those response for yourself.

A true professional will not notice the sex of the interviewer/ee at all. The dress, the manner, the professionalism should all be professional. If a person is noticing the sex of the person they are not fully mature as a professional yet. I have been a female entepreneur for many years and have NEVER considered my sex. That is why I am a success.
