I believe that its the currency that you will want to spend the money in, otherwise you are taking the exchange rate risk.

One caveat if you are in a hyper inflationary economy like say Zimbabwe then you would be better off keeping your savings in one of the big US Dollars, Pound, Euro or Yen

Euro; the US dollar is sinking every day. Back in 2001 the Euro was 90 cents to the dollar. Today the Euro is $1.35 cents to the dollar. Over a 40% gain in six years.
