"love is an illusion we create to comfort ourselves".

Can someone explain what that means exactly from a females perspective.

The reason I ask is that my ex girlfriend wrote that on her msn message. The day before I moved (to another state) I told her bye, she was sad that i didnt tell her i was moving until the day before.

When I arrived an unpacked and went online, she changed her msn message to "no more illusion, it's gone". Then she posted an old picture of her kissing an ex boyfriend

What does this mean

That quote refers to the feeling of love that has gone. Unfortunately, it is a cynical and overly dramatic expression of sorrow. When a person is in love they often see an idealized version of their lover thus "comforting ourselves".

It is repugnant that you called this person your girlfriend and yet did not prepare her for your move. How could you not tell her that you were moving out of state until the day before? That's cowardly and disrespectful of you. You should have been a man and told her when you knew. It sounds as though you did not trust her or the relationship enough to do the honorable thing or were you simply afraid of the drama and emotions?

As for her behavior, she ought not to have posted a photo of herself with another boy regardless of what you did.

You both need to grow up a little and think about other people's feelings, not just your own.

What she could possibly mean is that YOU were her illusion, she loved you and even though she called love an illusion, she still found comfort in it. When you moved away, her "illusion" went aswell, so she lost her comfort and security. Put more simply, she's hurt that you left, she's hurt that you didn't tell her that you were leaving earlier, and she thinks that she doesn't mean anything to you. The old pic of her and her boyfriend is probably just to provoke some sort of response out of you, to see if you get jealous or not, or to see if you still have any feelings for her. Hope that helped a bit xx

Absolutely right, the so called love is only a matter of getting used to the so called beloved...and it only takes time for the beloved person to be forgotten over time...only a matter of time and place...Just an illusion...

I think that she is hurt and that she thinks you might have had played with her love and created an illusion in her heart. By the changing th picture she might want to make you jealous. Talk to her and see how it goes. Good Luck!!!!

It means you should have told her before the day before you moved that you were moving. That was a cruel way to end a relationship on your part. And I can't believe you were innocent about it. You KNEW you were doing wrong. Why didn't you just be a man about it and be truthful with her?

You hurt her because you didn't tell her, so in a way i think you crushed her ideas of love. When someone hurts you that much you don't want to think that it was love 'cuz it hurts too much, so instead you say it's an illussion, she's pretending that what you guys had doesn't matter.

It means you p1ssed her off big time. Were you still together before your move. If so you probably really hurt her and broke her heart. The photo is just to get at you.

it means that she isn't in love anymore but the original quote also means that she was in love for herself not for the sake of love. she sounds a little over dramatic. also the original could mean that she was never in love in the first place and just told herself that she was so she wouldn't feel left out or something.

move on. i know i would.

THAT LINE MEANS THAT LOVE IS NOT REAL. WE ONLY CREATE IT IN OUR MINDS TO MAKE US FEEL BETTER. THE PICTURE OF THE EX AND HER WAS THAT SHE NO LONGER LOVED HIM.

YOU ALSO NEED TO APOLOGIZE FOR NOT LETTING HER KNOW THAT YOU WERE LEAVING. SHE WAS HURT.
